HKSQ Cultural Visit to Foshan Ceramics Museum

Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) arranged a two-day technical visit to Foshan Coca Cola Plant and Ceramics Museum on 19th & 20th Jan 2018.  These technical visits would allow us to investigate both the technological and traditional approaches to production.  The first part is a tour of the Coca Cola Foshan Plant, and second part is a visit to Foshan Ceramics Museum - Ancient Nanfeng Kiln (南風古灶).  I would like to share the day 2 visit.  Foshan Ceramics Museum is in the famous ceramic capital of Shi Wan (石灣). It is the world’s biggest ceramics museum of human characters. We can appreciate and inquire about its long history of cultural heritage and workmanship.  I took a group photo in front of the Ancient Nanfeng Kiln (南風古灶

We started at 9:30am from Hilton Garden Inn to the Ancient Nanfeng Kiln.

Arrived the Ancient Nanfeng Kiln, I took a photo with temple as background.

God of Fire was here.

Dr. Aaron Tong (Former Chairman, HKSQ) as tour leader and explained the history of the Ancient NanFeng Kiln.  The Ancient Nanfeng Kiln was built in the period of Emperor Zhengde (明代正德) (1506-1521 AD), the Ming Dynasty. Since then its fire has never gone out and it has been unceasingly producing, which is seldom seen.  It is the oldest Dragon Kiln (龍窯/龙窑) extant in China with 34.4 metres long and 20 lines of fire holes.
