The first GHM Bay Area Quality Forum 2017

I was honor to be invited to attend the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Quality Forum by Shenzhen Association for Quality (SZAQ) on 27th September 2017.  The first GHM Bay Area Quality Forum organized by Federation of Shenzhen Industries, Hong Kong Federation of Industry, Macau Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), Shenzhen Quality Innovation Technology Alliance, Shenzhen High Performance Management Association, SZAQ and Shenzhen TV Financial Life Channel in Shenzhen Wuzhou Hotel.  The theme of Forum is “Quality Leading Integration & Development”.  In the beginning, Mr. Z.W. Wang (王肇文) (Counselor of the Guangdong Provincial, People’s Government Counselor) gave a welcome speech.


I took a photo with one of speakers from HK, Mr. Ren Yongquan (Senior Consultant & General Manager, Mainland, HKPC).


Then Ms. Liang Dan (梁丹) (Director of United Nations Maritime-Continental Silk Road Cities Alliance) gave guest speech.  She said GHM would be the new economic growth point.

Shenzhen Quality Consumption Festival & SZAQ 30th anniversary dinner

Dr. Aaron Tong, Dr. KS Chin, Dr. Ivan Ng and I were honor to be invited to attend the 30th anniversary dinner by Shenzhen Association for Quality (SZAQ) on 24th September 2017.  It was also the closing ceremony of Shenzhen Quality Consumption Festival 2017.


Before the ceremony dinner, we met many friends and took some photos for memory. Firstly, we met Dr. Lin Chang (Vice-chairman, Macau Quality Management Association (MQMA).


Then I met our members Mr. Simon Tong (He is also the chairman of ASQ LMC HK) and Ms. Phyllis Lee.


I also met Mr. Bryan Pang (Assistant Director, HKQAA).

The International Academy for Quality (IAQ) General Meeting and Dinner during ANQ Congress 2017

Dr. KS Chin and I participated the general meeting and dinner of the International Academy for Quality (IAQ) on 22 and 20 Sep 2017, respectively, during ANQ Congress in Kathmandu, Nepal.  IAQ is an independent, self-supported, non-profit, non-governmental organization that is administered by a collegial assembly of individuals who have been elected by their peers from among the most respected, active and experienced protagonists of quality in the world.  After ANQ Congress 2017 from 20 to 21 September 2017, IAQ had general meeting on 22 September 2017 at 10:00am to 4:00pm.  Before the meeting, we took a group photo of all participants (IAQ Academician and Associate Academician).

In the beginning, Mr. Janak Mehta gave welcome speech, reviewed and approval of minutes from the last meeting and meeting agenda.


Then he reported the membership development, ITC Global Platform for Quality MOU among EOQ, ASQ, IAQ and JUSE; as well as reported IAQ Finances.


Then we congratulated Prof. Yury Gusakov for the Founders Medal and others recognition such as best paper awards by IAQ or other organizations.

ANQ Congress 2017 Kathmandu, Nepal – Gala Dinner

After completion of ANQ Congress 2017 closing ceremony, Gala Dinner was arranged outside the hall of Soaltee Crowne Plaza Hotel and performance was inside the hall at about 7:00pm on 21 Sep 2017.  We prepared a song for Hong Kong and would like to share some photos for memory of our joyful time. In the beginning, the Nepal performance was peacock dancing. 


The dancing of peacock looked like real one. 


So many people joined the dinner and some noodle cooking was prepared.

ANQ Congress 2017 Kathmandu, Nepal – Day 2

The second day of ANQ Congress 2017 was held on 21 Sep 2016.  Morning session was parallel sessions.  Minda and I took a photo in the main entry.


Then we took a photo with NQPCN President and executive members in front of the banner.


Technical Session – IV (Parallel Session IV)
I attended the Quality Management System (QMS) session.

The first speaker was Mr. Trinh Manh Dung (Nong SiNH Co. Ltd) (Coauthor with Dr. Ngo Van Nhon) and his presentation topic entitled “The Operating System for Quality Management – Part I. The Impact of Industry 4.0 Revlution to QMS Practice in Vietnam”. He said the industry 4.0 revolution had created new level development that allowed high-quality production carried out on a small size business.  He said there was 96% company belongs to Private Micro & Small Enterprises. 


Then he introduced five supporting elements to Industry 4.0 revolution and they were HiTech, Global, SME, Great Creative Thinking and QMS. He said Creative Thinking and QMS emerged as an important factor. (Value = Quality x Quantity)

ANQ Congress 2017 Kathmandu, Nepal – Day 1

The first day of Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2017 in Soaltee Crowne Plaza Hotel, Kathmandu, Nepal was held on 20 Sep 2017. The congress theme was “Quality Culture for Sustainable Prosperity”. Before the congress, Minda and I took a photo in front of the entrance.


During registration, I met Mr. Janardan Ghimire (President, NQPCN) and Mrs. Bindu Manandhar (EC member, NQPCN). We took a photo for memory.


Minda helped the registration affairs for Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) members.


In the congress hall, we took a group photo with Prof. Kano, CAQ, CSQ, SQI, SQAT and HKSQ.

ANQ-CEC Meeting 2017 in Nepal

The Asian Network for Quality, Certification and Examination Centre (ANQ-CEC) meeting was held on 18 Sep 2016 before the ANQ Congress 2017 in the Soaltee Crowne Plaza hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal. The CEC committee aimed to design and implement a certification system for individuals for building their capabilities in quality field.  Mr. Janardan Ghimire (President, NQPCN) arranged the meeting and Mr. Too Meng Ken (SQI) coordinated the ANQ CEC Meeting for Mr. Kenneth Liang who chaired. Dr. KS Chin (Former chairman, HKSQ) was our representative to participate the ANQ-CEC. Then Dr. KS Chin took some photos with ANQ-CEC members for memory.

We met many ANQ friends on Monday morning and they needed to attend ANQ CEC meeting.  I took a photo with them before breakfast.  Moreover, they had ANQ Board Meeting on 19 Sep 2017.

HKSTP TecONE Seminar “Industry 4.0 and Its Potential Opportunities for Tech Companies”

HKSTP TecONE InfoTalk seminar named “Industry 4.0 and Its Potential Opportunities for Tech Companies” was organized by Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) on 13th Sep 2017.  HKPC Fraunhofer Certified i4.0 expert & trainer Mr. Lyan Law (Lead Consultant, HKPC) shared what i4.0 stand for and the key transition from Industry 3.0 to Industry 4.0, as well as probed the technology status of the factories in the Greater Pearl River Delta and the opportunities for the solution providers.  After the seminar, we would visit the first i4.0 demonstration centre in Hong Kong which opened on 24 Aug 2017.


Firstly, Mr. Lyan Law introduced HKPC history and then briefed Fraunhofer Institute which had 67 institutes in Germany. Then he briefed the global industrial trend and direction which included Information, Technology and Market trends.   Different countries had different terms to describe the same concept of Industry 4.0.  However, Industries 4.0 is not just automation.


Then Mr. Law mentioned the definition of Industry 4.0 based on Fraunhofer and there were some key words such as “The Fourth Industrial Revolution”, “Life Cycle of Products”, “Information in Real Time”, “Value Chain”, “Data” and “Connection of People, Things and Systems creates Dynamic”.

HKSTP APAC Innovation Summit 2017 Series – Smart City Connected City

The APAC Innovation Summit series was a flagship innovation conference of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) and the topic in September was entitled “Smart City Connected City” which was held on 7-8 Sep 2017.  The summit aimed to explore the Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong and how smart resilient planning could successfully be realized in neighbouring countries.  Before the summit, I met Mr. Peter Fung (Immediate past chairman, HKSQ) and took a photo for memory.  I had only attended the first morning session and summarized as follows.


In the beginning, Mr. George Tee (CTO, HKSTP) gave welcome remarks.  He said it was the 3rd year in the topic of Smart City.  Hong Kong is a good place for Smart City Solution.  HKSTP collaborated with CUHK to develop the Smart Region and Smart Solution.


Dr. David Chung (Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, HKSAR Government) was our guest-of-honour and gave an opening speech. He said government had developing the Smart City Blueprint through consultant.  One of recommendations was to start smart city development early.  Moreover, we would cooperate with Shenzhen for developing Innovation and technology loop.  He asked us to build Hong Kong to be Smart City together.


Prof. Benjamin Wah (Provost/Wei Lun Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, CUHK) gave an introduction speech.  Prof. Wah briefed the collaboration with HKSTP for Smart Region project.  He said CUHK identified environmental, sustainability and smart city as strategic area for teaching and research.

The first keynote speaker was Mr. Allen Yeung (Government Chief Information Officer, HKSAR Government) and his topic entitled “Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong”.  He would like to share the latest development of consultancy study on smart city blueprint and introduced some proposed initiatives as well as open data in Hong Kong.

HKSTP TecONE Investment Series Seminar “How investors influence your business development?”

HKSTP TecONE Investment Series seminar named “How investors influence your business development?” was organized by Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) with strategic partner “Hong Kong Business Angel Network” (HKBAN) on 6th Sep 2017.  The guest speaker was Mr. Desmond Marshall (Managing Director, Rouge Ventures) and he shared his experience and view of investor to us.


In the beginning, he introduced himself and he was the founder of Pitch Perfect platform.

HKCAAVQ Consultation Session – Generic Level Descriptors (GLD) and the Practical Tools

The Consultation Session entitled “Review of the Generic Level Descriptors (GLD) and the draft Practical Tools under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework commissioned by the Education Bureau” was organized by Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) on 5th Sep 2017.  The review of GLD and the PTs had completed and the session aimed to share the result as well as starting the final consultation in one month period. 


In the beginning, Ms. Elaine Mak (Principal Assistant Secretary (Further Education), Education Bureau) gave opening remarks.  She introduced some background information about SCS of 22 industries under HKQF, Generic Level Descriptors and Guidelines draft.  The consultation period was from 5th Sep 2017 to 4th Oct 2017.


Then Ms. Susanna Lee (co-Principal Investigator and Project Manager, HKCAAVQ) briefed the “Presentation on the refined GLD”.  Firstly, she mentioned the scope of project included “To revise GLD” and “To develop practical tools”.  She reviewed the history that HKQF operated for 10 years with about 8000 qualifications on the QR and performed a comparability study of HKQF with EQF.

Forum – “Imagine Hong Kong: Political Leaders of our Next Generation”

The Forum named “Imagine Hong Kong: Political Leaders of our Next Generation” (香港想像: 「下世代的政治人才」座談會) was co-organized by Path of Democracy (民主思路) and HKU SPACE (香港大學專業進修學院) and on 2nd Sep 2017.  The guest speakers were Mr. Patrick NIP Tak-kuen (聶德權先生), Mrs. Regina IP LAU Suk-yee (葉劉淑儀女士) and Mr. Ronny TONG Ka-wah (湯家驊先生).  In the beginning, Mr. Ronny Tong gave an opening speech to introduce the purpose of this forum and the Hong Kong Academy of Politics and Public Policy (HKAPP) which aimed to train or incubate more political talents in Hong Kong.  Moreover, he said the recruitment of the training course was very good and most applicants were degree or above.

Minitab Seminar on “Data driven Business toward Excellence”

I attended Minitab Seminar entitled “Data driven Business toward Excellence” (營之以據,邁向卓越) on 1st Sep 2017. Before the seminar, I took a photo with Ir. Dr. YK Chan (Chairman, Six Sigma Institute (SSI)) in his office for memory. 


In the beginning, Ms. Iza Ng (Business Development Manager, Techmax Information Technology (HK) Ltd.) and Mr. Alex Kwan (Country Account Manager, Minitab) introduced the background on Minitab and guest speakers.


The first guest speaker was Mr. Ming Dong (Senior Technical Training Manager, Minitab Australia) and his topic entitled “Using DOE in Transactional Businesses”. Firstly, he briefed transactional businesses included Banking/Financial, Food and Beverage, Healthcare/Hospitals, Mailing & Publishing and Government, etc.
