Dear Mr. Jia Fuxing, CAQ President, and CAQ and ANQ Friends,

It was very sad to be informed that Prof Liu Yuanzhang passed away.

We know that Prof Liu Yuanzhang is Father of Quality in China because he
worked so hard to start quality activities since 1970s and have taken
leadership in the national promotion of quality for over 30 years.

Prof. Liu represented China Association of Quality (CAQ) and was an ANQ
board member of 2003-2004, the first term of ANQ, He was a very
influential coordinator and very successfully organized the first ANQ
Congress in Beijing in 2003. He did the great contribution to ANQ
development from its foundation period.

I did not exactly remember when I met him first time. Maybe it was in
the middle of 1990s. He was a bilingual speaker of both Japanese and
English because he obtained bachelor degree in Japan while PhD in
U. S.. He talked about his very painful story to be jailed during the
Cultuaral Revelution. I was very impressed with his voice tone because
he maintained in a detached tone and even with a smile as if he talked
about somebody else but not himself.

It was last time to see him when we met at ANQ Congress in Ho Chih Minh
with Mrs Liu in September, 2011, where Prof Liu was awarded Ishikawa
Kano Award for his contribution to Quality development in China and in Asia.

Let us express our deep condolence to Mrs. Liu and his family as well as
CAQ friends with memory of his great work. May I pray sincerely for the
repose of Professor Liu Yuanzhang's soul.

Honorary Chairperson,
Asian Network for Quality

To: Members of CAQ and Members of ANQ
I am indeed sad to learn about the great loss of Honorary Academician Liu Yuanzhang. I met him only three times starting with ANQ Congress 2003 in Beijing but he left a deep mark with his humility.
I recall my meeting with him at the Ho Chi Minh City when he was awarded the Ishikawa-Kano Award. It was so refreshing to have him with us.
We all recognize his passing away has created a vacuum in China in the field of quality that is not easy to fill. But he laid a strong foundation on which to build. His legacy will be remembered by all of us. Best tribute we can pay to him is to reinforce our effort for international cooperation in pursuit of quality for the wellbeing of humankind.
On behalf of the Academy we pray for his sole to rest in peace. Please convey our heartfelt condolence to his family with a prayer for them to bear his loss with equanimity.
Our condolences to you and the quality fraternity of China.
